Our goal
We will study terms, commands, and operation of a sailboat to become a confident sailboat skipper with a Sail Canada certification.
Group size and duration
Groups of 2 to 4 people will complete this course. Basic Cruising Standard course is 28 hours of instruction, including 18 hours of coached sailing, 7 hours of sailing theory, and a 3 hour written exam and review.
Materials and exams
We will use the Sail Canada text book “Basic Cruising Skills” by Gillian West. Your time sailing will culminate in one practical sailing exam and one in-class written exam. If you wish for the learning material to be mailed to you please send your mailing address.
Price

- $850 per person plus:
- Sail Canada text book “Basic Cruising Skills” – $35 incl. HST.
- Sail Canada certification only if pass all the tests and exam – $47 incl. HST.
- If you wish for the learning material to be mailed to you please send your mailing address and $25 postage.
- It is possible for students of the Basic Cruising course to study together with the Start Keelboat Sailing course students in mixed groups.
Prerequisites
The Introduction to Sailing or Start Keelboat Sailing course is recommended for people who never sailed before.
Schedule
On Wednesdays there will be no lessons from 16:00 to 18:00 due to club racing day at APSC.
Because places are limited for the summer months, please register early.
